Longview Comic Convention

Longview Comic Con

Comic conventions have gained quite a bit of momentum over the years, and while we’d hesitate to call them “mainstream” for fear of provoking staunch defenders who enjoy being left of center, there’s something to be said for the growing popularity of these fan events. Like, for instance, that you don’t necessarily have to travel across the country to hit big-city Comic Cons in San Diego or New York. If you’re lucky enough to live in a place like Longview, Texas, a Comic Con is coming right to your door. (Basically. It’s being held at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex.)

Fun for all ages and affordable to boot, Longview Comic Con is a two-day event featuring a diverse list of guests, vendors, artists, and fan groups. On Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 3, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., attendees can peruse convention offerings to their hearts’ content, taking in the delightfully diverse array of fan-produced and -supported merchandise, art, and creative cosplay endeavors.

To showcase the best of those, there will be a costume contest on June 2 consisting of two categories: The Adult category includes participants age 13 and up; the Children’s category is for participants age 12 and under. After a costume parade, winners will be chosen in the categories of Overall Costume (Adult), Best Group or Duo, and Children.

Tickets are available online at a price of $15 per day, $25 for a weekend pass; $5 per day for kids 2–8. Children under 2 get in free. Military pricing is $20 for a weekend pass.

No matter whether you go to participate in the costume contest, meet the guests, purchase fan memorabilia, or just to gawk, it’s important to remember Rule #14, parts A and B, as decreed by Longview Comic Convention:

Have fun.

Don’t be a jerk.

The only thing that beats our selection is our prices, which are suitable for any budget even before we throw in our special offers and dealer discounts. So what are you waiting for?
