You Won’t Want To Miss The Heritage Syrup Festival

Syrup

Do you take syrup for granted? Sure, you love putting it on your fluffy buttermilk pancakes, but you probably don’t give it much thought. You can change that by attending the 30th Annual Heritage Syrup Festival. This is one of the most interesting and entertaining festivals around, so head to the Depot Museum and Historic Downtown Henderson on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to enjoy it. Oh, and if you don’t like syrup, it’s still worth making the trip. It might be called the Syrup Festival, but it’s actually a folklife festival, and it will have all kinds of cool things to enjoy.

This festival takes place in two parts. Let’s take a closer look.

The Depot Museum – Part One

You’ll probably want to start at the Depot Museum. It will have the highlight of the entire festival. Some of the best syrup makers around will use antique mule-powered equipment to make old-fashioned cane syrup. You will have a whole new respect for people who lived in the old days.

That’s not all that’ll be going on at the museum, either. You will get to see other aspects of folklife. People will be quilting and carving wood, and of course, there will be a blacksmith there. You will even learn about survival skills in the old days. It’ll be a real eye-opener.

Just when you think you’ve seen everything at the museum, you’ll come across the folk singers. Grab some food and drinks at the museum and spend some time listening to the music.

The Downtown Area – Part Two

Once you leave the museum, you’ll be ready to explore Heritage Square. You’ll find arts and crafts, music, and more. You can even take part in some square dancing or check out antique cars. You’ll really go back to the old days here.

Oh, and you don’t have to walk to Heritage Square. You can take a hayride from the museum to Heritage Square and back again. You can take as many rides with the day pass for $2. See, things were even cheaper in the old days.

Hayrides are a lot of fun, but they aren’t practical most of the time. It’s not like you can hop on a hayride to go to work. Well, maybe you could, but you’d have to leave awfully early, and you’d be sure to get some looks. Stand out for the right reasons with a new ride from Toyota of Longview in Longview, Texas.
